Travertine

Travertine, imported mostly from Italy, is a great choice for floors and walls. It is durable and has a natural beauty characterized by pitted holes and troughs in its surface which occur naturally and contribute to the "natural stone" feel of your room. To your liking, we can use a grout to fill the holes, leave them open, or polish to a smooth shiny finish. Travertine comes in a variety of colors from grey to coral-red.

Did you know?

Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs, especially hot springs. It is commonly used as tile for facades, wall cladding and flooring.

The Romans mined deposits of travertine for building

temples, aqueducts, monuments, and bath complexes. Amphitheaters such as the Coliseum, the largest building in the world at the time, were constructed mostly of travertine.

Travertine is one of the most frequently used stones in modern architecture. The lobby walls of the modernist Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) in Chicago are made of travertine.
